About Yatsushiro Nagasaki Hana Lighthouse
The Yatsushiro Nagasaki Hana Lighthouse stands on a promontory of Naga Shima, marking the eastern side of the Yatsushiro Bay entrance. The original station was established in 1897. The current octagonal cylindrical concrete tower, 15 meters in height, was built and first lit in 1977. It features a lantern and gallery atop a 1-story keeper's house. The lighthouse emits a white flash every 10 seconds, visible for 14.7 nautical miles. The site is open to the public, though the tower is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is indispensable for safe navigation into Yatsushiro Bay, specifically delineating the eastern side of its entrance. Its consistent white flash provides a critical visual cue for vessels approaching from the open sea.
