Warnemünde Ostmole Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Warnemünde Ostmole Lighthouse
Originally constructed in 1903, this cylindrical cast iron tower stood 6 meters tall and was painted with red and white horizontal bands. It was located at the Warnemünde Ostmole, serving as a navigational aid until it was deactivated in 1963. The tower was removed from its original site in 1998 and remained in a derelict state for many years. Following a restoration completed in May 2019, the lighthouse was relocated to atop the Deck 9 Bistro, situated in front of the Rostock city train station. While the site is open to the public, the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is significant for its historical preservation and adaptive reuse, demonstrating a community's commitment to its maritime heritage. It now functions as a cultural attraction in Rostock, connecting visitors to the city's port history.
