About Vittoria Lighthouse
The Vittoria Lighthouse stands 68 meters tall as a cylindrical stone tower on the Gretta hill, about 2 km north of Trieste's waterfront. Built in 1927 on the foundations of an older fortress, its construction followed World War I and the Istrian peninsula's return to Italian control. The lighthouse emits a white flash every 10 seconds, visible for 26.4 nautical miles. Its design includes a fluted stone tower topped with a lantern, gallery, and a bronze statue of Victory. The structure is dedicated as a memorial to Italian sailors lost during the war, with sculptures by Giovanni Mayer and designed by Arduino Berlam. This active lighthouse is near the port of Trieste.
