About Ushimado Kō Breakwater Lighthouse
Also known as: #Ushimado Kō Breakwater
This green flashing light marks the end of a detached breakwater at Ushimado, Japan. Built in 1950, the original structure was an 8-meter white concrete post. It was replaced around 2020 with a modern system. The current light emits a green flash every 3 seconds from a focal height of 12 meters. The octagonal concrete tower stands 8 meters tall and has a geographic range of 11 nautical miles. The site is open to visitors who can reach it by boat, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This light serves as a critical marker for vessels navigating into Ushimado port, guiding them clear of the detached breakwater.
