About Ushibuka Kuroshima Breakwater Lighthouse
Also known as: Ushibuka Kuroshima Breakwater (Suguchi Ura)
This red, cylindrical concrete lighthouse was built in 1983 and first lit the same year. Standing 11 meters tall with a focal height of 15 meters, it is situated at the end of the south breakwater of Ushibuka's main western harbor. The tower is round and flares at the top. It emits a single red flash every six seconds, visible for nearly 12 nautical miles. The lighthouse is located 1.5 kilometers from the nearest port of Ushibuka.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is essential for the safe entry of all maritime traffic into Ushibuka's main western harbor, clearly marking the detached south breakwater and preventing collisions with its submerged end.
