Uno Kō lighthouse was established and first lit in 1911. It stands on a rectangular concrete pier in Uno harbor, near Tamano and off the northeast coast of Naoshima. The structure is a 9-meter tall, white cylindrical concrete tower. Its light is white and flashes once every 3 seconds, with a geographic range of 10.7 nautical miles. The lighthouse is situated on a shoal within the harbor, assisting vessels navigating the area.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is a rare surviving example of an early Japanese harbor light, providing insight into historical maritime infrastructure development.
