Built in 1936, this 30-meter steel lightship, initially identified as ex-Lord Nelson, operated on Great Britain's Cockle and Cork stations, denoting significant shipping lanes. Its service concluded in 1977 when it was decommissioned. The vessel was then acquired by the Sea Cadets Corps in Norwich, where it was renamed T.S. Lord Nelson and functioned as their base. The original light apparatus was moved to Lightship 87. In October 2004, the ship, formerly red, was observed at Rochester painted blue. It was last recorded near Hoo.
Why it matters: The lightship marked important shipping lanes on the Cockle and Cork stations, offering a reference point for ships in busy waters.
