About Trinity House Lightship 87 Haven Ports Lighthouse
Built in 1932, this 30-meter steel lightship served on East Goodwin, Mid-Barrow, and Cromer stations for over four decades. Its construction includes a skeletal tower, lantern, and gallery. Originally painted red, the vessel was decommissioned in 1973. The original light tower was moved to the Inner Dowsing light platform, and the ship received a replacement tower from Lightship 88. It is now moored at Suffolk Yacht Harbor near Ipswich.
Why it matters: The lightship marked critical stations including East Goodwin, Mid-Barrow, and Cromer, contributing to maritime safety in busy coastal waters. Its preservation as a club ship for the Haven Ports Yacht Club maintains a tangible link to the era of manned lightships.
