About Torre Mattarelle Lighthouse
Torre Mattarelle is a ruined, square watchtower constructed from stone, situated approximately 8 kilometers southeast of Brindisi, Italy. Erected in the 1940s, this 15-meter high edifice originally functioned as a lookout point above the Adriatic Sea. The tower ceased operations near 1960. Records indicate the property, a ruined square stone watchtower, was offered for acquisition in 2008.
Why it matters: This structure historically served as a coastal lookout point, placed on a headland close to Brindisi to monitor sea traffic. Its square stone construction, currently in disrepair, represents a physical connection to the area's former defensive constructions.
