About Tonohama Lighthouse
Also known as: Tonohama (Karahama)
Tonohama Lighthouse was established in 1969 as a cylindrical concrete tower painted white, standing 17 meters tall. Its focal height reaches 24 meters above sea level. Positioned on a promontory on the east side of Yasuda, the lighthouse warns mariners of shoals in the area. The main light was discontinued in March 2013, but a sector light continues to operate. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse warns vessels of shoals near Yasuda and provides guidance for local fishing fleets and coastal shipping.
