About Tōkyō Lighthouse
Also known as: #Tōkyō (Haneda)
This concrete cylindrical lighthouse, built in 1968, stood 32 meters tall on a square platform supported by numerous concrete piles. It featured a lantern and gallery and was painted white. Located in Tōkyō Bay, southeast of Edogawa's artificial islands, it replaced the former Tōkyō lightship. The lighthouse emitted a white light to guide vessels. Its service ended in October 2010, and it was demolished in 2011.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the modern Japanese lighthouse service and served as a permanent aid replacing a lightship.
