About Thurrock Yacht Club Lighthouse
This 21-meter cylindrical mast, erected in 2012, stands on the north bank of the Thames within the Thurrock Yacht Club dock in Grays. Its mast and lantern were salvaged and restored from the former lightship Gull. The light emits a continuous white flash, visible for 11.3 nautical miles. A dedication ceremony took place in November 2012, marking its operational start. The structure is managed by the yacht club and approved by the Port of London.
Why it matters: The lighthouse provides a continuous white light for vessels approaching the Thurrock Yacht Club dock and navigating the busy Thames waterway. Its unique origin, utilizing a salvaged mast and lantern from the lightship Gull, makes it a distinctive example of maritime heritage preservation and adaptation.
