About Takamatsu Tamamo Breakwater Lighthouse
This steel lighthouse, built in 1998, stands 14 meters tall at the end of Takamatsu's 500-meter main breakwater. The octagonal cylindrical tower is covered in special glass tiles that are lit from within. This internal lighting synchronizes with the main red light, causing the entire tower to pulse with a 3-second on, 3-second off cycle. The lighthouse marks the west side of the entrance to Takamatsu harbor, with its light visible for 12.4 nautical miles. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse delineates the west side of the entrance to Takamatsu harbor. Its structure incorporates illuminated glass tiles, creating a unique visual signal in sync with the main light.
