About Steinburg District Lighthouses Lighthouse
This red, cylindrical tower stands 40 meters tall on the north bank of the Elbe River near Kollmar. Built and first lit in 1986, it features a white horizontal band and a lantern with a gallery. The lighthouse emits an isophase white light on an 8-second cycle, visible for 17.1 nautical miles. It operates as the upper light in a range system, positioned 1330 meters north of its front light. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: As the upper light in a range system, the Kollmar Oberfeuer provides mariners with a critical visual cue for maintaining the correct course within the Elbe River's designated channel.
