Shiribeshi Tomari Kō Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Shiribeshi Tomari Kō Lighthouse
Constructed in 1966, this lighthouse is situated on a bluff south of Tomari harbor, on the southern side of the Shakotan peninsula. The structure consists of a post supporting a large semicircular lantern room. Its primary white light flashes once every 8 seconds. In addition to the main signal, a continuous white spotlight is directed at a nearby reef to improve maritime safety. The lighthouse site is accessible to the public, but the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is important for guiding vessels into Tomari Kō and illuminating a hazardous reef with a dedicated spotlight. Its design also relates to other regional lighthouses from the mid-20th century.
