About San Giacomo Lighthouse
Also known as: San Giacomo (Licata)
The San Giacomo Lighthouse, constructed of white concrete, stands 37.5 meters tall. Its lantern and gallery crown a cylindrical tower, which is mounted on a square masonry base. Operational since 1895, it emits a single white flash every 5 seconds from a focal height of 40 meters. The lighthouse is situated at the southern end of Corso Argentina, near the terminus of a large mole that shelters the eastern harbor of Licata. The site is accessible to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is essential for vessels approaching Licata's harbor, particularly for navigating the channel defined by the sheltering mole. Its position aids in protecting maritime traffic entering the busy Sicilian port.
