Location & Light Range
About Sakenotsu Lighthouse
This lighthouse, built in 1957, stands on a steep hill southeast of Sakenotsu harbor. The structure consists of a round, white concrete post attached to a one-story concrete equipment building. With a tower height of 7.5 meters and a focal height of 59 meters, it emits a white flash every 3 seconds. The light has a geographic range of 20 nautical miles. While the site is open to visitors, the tower itself is closed to the public. The coastal highway passes through a tunnel directly underneath the hill where the lighthouse is situated.
Why it matters: The lighthouse serves as a navigational aid for vessels approaching Sakenotsu harbor, helping to guide them safely into and out of the port.
