About Saint-Gilles Entrée Feu Postérieur Lighthouse
Built in 1880, this metal mast structure stands 24 meters tall, with its focal height reaching 28 meters. Originally, it lacked a lantern, with its light emitted from a watch room window. In 1890, a lantern and gallery were added to the masonry tower. The lighthouse emits a quick-flashing white light. It is located on Rue Henri Raimondeau at the Vanelle du Grand Phare, marking an entrance range with its front light situated 260 meters southwest.
Why it matters: This rear range light is indispensable for safe navigation into Port La Vie, providing a critical alignment for vessels approaching the harbor entrance.
