Sada Misaki Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Sada Misaki Lighthouse
Sada Misaki Lighthouse was established in 1918 as a white cylindrical concrete tower, 18 meters tall. The structure consists of an octagonal base leading to a cylindrical tower with a lantern and gallery, all rising from a one-story keeper's house. It is situated at the extreme tip of the Sadamisaki peninsula, which extends into the Inland Sea, separating Iyo Bay to the north from Uwa Bay to the south. This unique location means the lighthouse is surrounded by water. Its light emits one white flash every 20 seconds, visible for 18.5 nautical miles. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse guides vessels navigating the waters between Iyo Bay and Uwa Bay and casts a specific light onto the Ogon Bae reef. It is recognized as one of Japan's Famous Fifty Lighthouses.
