About Quai d'Escale Postérieur Lighthouse
Also known as: Quai d'Escale Postérieur (Quai Joannès-Couvert)
This 16-sided concrete tower, built in 1971, serves as the rear range light for vessels entering the port at Le Havre. The station was first established in 1935, with the current structure replacing an earlier aid. Its 77-meter-tall green tower is adjacent to the Gare Maritime. The lighthouse emits a continuous white light, guiding ships along a specific bearing. The grounds are open to visitors, but the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: As the rear range light for a critical shipping channel, its precise alignment with the front light ensures accurate bearings for safe passage into the port.
