About Punta Tagliamento Lighthouse
Also known as: Punta Tagliamento (Bibione)
Constructed in 1913, the Punta Tagliamento Lighthouse stands on a promontory at the eastern edge of Bibione, Italy. This cylindrical concrete tower, painted in a distinctive tan and white checkered pattern, reaches a height of 21 meters. It features a lantern and gallery, and is connected to a two-story keeper's house on its landward side. The lighthouse emits a white flash every 10 seconds, visible for over 13 nautical miles. Several stone seawalls have been erected to protect the structure from storm surges and the encroaching sea.
Why it matters: The lighthouse historically marked Italy's easternmost point, signifying a national frontier. It continues to serve as a navigational aid along the Adriatic coast.
