Punta Arenas Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Punta Arenas Lighthouse
Located off the southeastern tip of Isla de Puná, Punta Arenas Lighthouse was established in 1873. The original structure, a 14-meter square wooden tower, was replaced in 1889. The current 18-meter white skeletal tower stands on a square pier and emits a white flash every 15 seconds. This light aids navigation on the north side of the Canal de Jambelí. The site is open to visitors arriving by sea, although the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: The light marks the northern boundary of the Canal de Jambelí, a key navigational channel, helping prevent vessels from encountering hazards near Isla de Puná. Its original Fresnel lens is preserved in a local museum.
