This structure is situated at the southern extremity of the detached breakwater shielding Trieste's harbor. Initially lit in 1863, its first form was a 4-meter red-painted, square masonry tower with a gallery but no lantern. That initial tower was subsequently replaced. The present light, situated at a focal height of 7 meters, displays a red flash every 3 seconds and has a geographic range of 9.3 nautical miles. The tower is a 4-meter high, square stone edifice, colored red.
Why it matters: This light indicates the southern edge of the breakwater safeguarding Trieste's port, serving as a navigation aid for ships in this active maritime area.
