Port Haliguen Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Port Haliguen Lighthouse
A dark green masonry tower with a lantern and gallery, the Port Haliguen lighthouse stands 12 meters tall. Built in 1856, it was situated on the old breakwater at the northeast side of Quiberon. This structure served to guide vessels into the harbor for many years. It likely ceased active service around 1970, becoming inactive after the harbor was reconfigured primarily for pleasure craft. Its role was then assumed by pierhead lights on the expanded breakwaters.
Why it matters: The lighthouse's deactivation and replacement highlight the evolution of navigation aids as harbors adapt to changing maritime use.
