About Pointe du Toulinguet Lighthouse
Built of stone in 1849, Pointe du Toulinguet Lighthouse is a 14-meter-high cylindrical tower topped with a lantern and gallery. It rises from the front of a two-story stone keeper's house. The tower, painted white with unpainted stone trim, emits three white or red occulting flashes every 12 seconds. Its focal plane sits 49 meters above the sea, providing a geographic range of 18.5 nautical miles. Located on the west end of the Crozon peninsula near Camaret-sur-Mer, the lighthouse marks the southern side of the approach to Brest.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is indispensable for safe navigation into Brest, a significant naval and commercial port. Its light warns mariners of the westernmost point of the Crozon peninsula, a critical landmark for vessels approaching from the Atlantic.
