Pagensand Mitte Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Pagensand Mitte Lighthouse
Built in 1933, Pagensand Mitte was a cylindrical stone tower standing 12 meters tall, mounted on a hexagonal stone base. It featured a red exterior with a single white horizontal band, topped by a lantern and gallery. This lighthouse was one of three identical structures erected between 1932 and 1934 to mark the Pagensand shoals. It served as a navigational aid for decades before its active light was deactivated in 1992. Even after becoming inactive, the tower continued to function as a daybeacon and was floodlit at night to assist vessels. The structure was ultimately removed and scrapped in September 2010, leaving only its base.
Why it matters: Pagensand Mitte was one of three identical towers built to mark the Pagensand shoals, essential for safe passage in the region.
