About Omoto Lighthouse

Omoto Lighthouse was a cylindrical concrete tower built in 1963. Rising 8.5 meters, it featured a round structure atop a 1-story equipment room. Situated on a bluff south of Omoto, approximately 25 kilometers north of Miyako, it served as a navigational aid. The lighthouse remained operational for 50 years before its decommissioning and demolition in 2013. Its foundation remains at the site, which is now part of a National Park.
Why it matters: Although no longer active, its former site within a National Park offers visitors expansive coastal views, recalling the lighthouse's role in maritime safety for the area north of Miyako.
