About Ogaki Kō Lighthouse
Also known as: Ogaki Kō (Nomishima)
This 9-meter cylindrical concrete lighthouse was built and first lit in 1965. It stands on a breakwater that shelters the harbor of Ogaki, on Etajima island's east coast, south of Kakiura. The structure consists of a white concrete post attached to a 1-story equipment shelter. It emits a single green flash every 3 seconds. The light has a geographic range of 10.7 nautical miles. The site is open to the public, but the tower is closed.
Why it matters: The lighthouse is indispensable for the safe operation of Ogaki Harbor, directly guiding vessels through its entrance. Its green flash helps mariners distinguish this specific harbor approach from other lights along the Etajima coastline.
