About Northern Beaches Council Area Lighthouse Lighthouse
This cylindrical stone tower, standing 20 meters high, was constructed in 1881. It features a lantern and gallery, and is attached to a single-story keeper's house, also built of sandstone. The lighthouse's focal plane is 113 meters above sea level, providing a geographic range of 26.2 nautical miles. Its light emits four white flashes every 20 seconds. Restoration work was announced in January 2004 and completed in February 2005. The site was also saved from a bushfire in September 2013, with a further restoration plan announced in October 2014.
Why it matters: The lighthouse guides vessels entering the southern approach to Barren Bay and the Hawkesbury River. Its original Chance Brothers Fresnel lens remains in use, underscoring its historical authenticity.
