About Naze Kō Lighthouse
Also known as: #Naze Kō (West Breakwater)
The Naze Kō lighthouse, a round cylindrical concrete tower, was built in 1989. It stands 11 meters tall with a focal height of 8 meters and emits a red light. Originally, it was a red tower that served the entrance to Naze harbor. Typhoon Trami destroyed the original structure in September 2018. A temporary light was installed, followed by a new light on a round post in January 2020, which continues the navigational service. The geographic range of the light is 5 nautical miles.
Why it matters: The Naze Kō light is essential for safe navigation into Naze harbor, guiding local fishing boats and larger cargo ships. Its rapid replacement after destruction demonstrates its critical function for maritime traffic and the local economy.
