About Nakada Kō Lighthouse
Also known as: Nakada Kō (Izena Shima)
This cylindrical concrete tower, built in 1994, stands 12 meters high and displays a red light. Its focal height reaches 19 meters, casting a red flash every 3 seconds. The structure features a round concrete tower with a flared top, attached to a square, single-story equipment shelter. It is situated on the south end of the north breakwater of Nakada harbor, the port for Izena. The lighthouse was relocated due to an extension of the breakwater. The site is open to visitors, but the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse serves as a clear marker for vessels entering Nakada harbor, particularly ferries connecting Izena with Okinawa.
