Muromoto Kō Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Muromoto Kō Lighthouse
A 9-meter concrete post, painted white, once stood atop a square, single-story concrete equipment shelter at the end of Muromoto harbor's north breakwater. Built and first lit in 1963, this structure served as a navigational aid for vessels entering and departing the harbor in Kan'onji, Kagawa Prefecture. Its primary function was to mark the breakwater and ensure safe passage for local fishing boats and smaller commercial craft. The light ceased operations in 2011 and the lighthouse was subsequently demolished. While the tower is gone, the site remains accessible, allowing visitors to view the location where it once stood.
Why it matters: The lighthouse was important for guiding local fishing vessels and small craft into and out of Muromoto harbor, warning them of the northern breakwater.
