About Mure Kō Lighthouse
Mure Kō is a 10-meter concrete post situated atop a 1-story concrete equipment shelter, painted red, marking the northern entrance to Sanuki-Mure harbor. This light, first activated in 1958, stands at the end of the north breakwater in southeastern Takamatsu. Its red structure and a red flash every 5 seconds provide a clear navigational signal. The geographic range of this light is 10.7 nautical miles. The site is open to the public, but the tower itself is closed to visitors. The nearest port is Odahigashi, located 3.8 kilometers away.
Why it matters: Mure Kō is essential for vessels entering and exiting Sanuki-Mure harbor, clearly marking the end of the north breakwater. Its continuous operation aids local fishing fleets and other maritime traffic in safely maneuvering within the port.
