About Mourepiane Lighthouse
Built in 1930, the Mourepiane lighthouse is a white, cylindrical masonry tower standing 9.5 meters tall. It features a lantern and gallery and is attached to a two-story keeper's house. This structure overlooks the northern approach to Marseille harbor. The lighthouse emitted three green flashes every 12 seconds. It ceased operation in the 1960s and has since been used as a private residence. The property was listed for sale in April 2007.
Why it matters: The lighthouse marked the north entrance to Marseille harbor, a major Mediterranean port.
