The Monte Louro Lighthouse was built in 1862 and stands at the end of a peninsula. This hexagonal granite tower, standing 7 meters tall, is topped with a lantern and gallery. It is attached to a small, one-story keeper's house. The focal height of the light is 27 meters above sea level, and it emits two white flashes followed by one white flash every 12 seconds. This light has a geographic range of 14.7 nautical miles. The site is open to visitors, but the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is important for vessels entering and exiting the Ría de Muros e Noia, providing a clear navigational aid at the northern approach to this Galician estuary.
