About Molo Vecchio Lighthouse
Also known as: Molo Vecchio (Lanternino)
A cylindrical concrete tower, standing 5 meters tall and painted green, was first lit in 1820 to mark the Molo Vecchio on the eastern side of Genoa's old harbor. This structure, topped with a lantern and gallery, served as a navigational aid. The original lighthouse was demolished in 1929 as part of a harbor redevelopment project. The current active light operates from a modern structure, continuing the tradition of maritime guidance from this location. Its focal plane is 8 meters above the water, and it emits a single green flash.
Why it matters: This light marks the Molo Vecchio, a pier essential for maritime traffic entering and navigating Genoa's historic and commercially important old harbor.
