Moji Saki Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Moji Saki Lighthouse
The Moji Saki Lighthouse was first lit in 1924. It is a cylindrical concrete tower, 7 meters high, adjoining a square equipment shelter. The lighthouse emits an isophase white light on a 6-second cycle, visible for 10.4 nautical miles. This structure stands at the tip of a promontory just north of the Kanmonkyō Bridge. It marks the narrowest point of the Kanmon Strait, a busy maritime passage. The site is open to visitors, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: This lighthouse is indispensable for safe passage through the Kanmon Strait, a heavily trafficked waterway. It warns mariners about the strait's narrowest point, a critical navigational hazard.
