About Mazagón Lighthouses Lighthouse
Constructed from cut stone in 1884, the Mazagón Lighthouse is a cylindrical tower 25 meters tall, painted metallic gray. Its lantern and double gallery sit atop an octagonal base, which rises from the front of a single-story keeper's house. The light emits two white flashes followed by four white flashes every 30 seconds, with a geographic range of 19 nautical miles. A third-order Fresnel lens was added in 1899, improving its navigational capability. The lighthouse remains operational, guiding vessels from its position on the east side of the Río Odiel entrance in Mazagón.
Why it matters: This lighthouse served as the traditional landfall light for the port of Huelva, its position marking the entrance to the Río Odiel.
