About Manfredonia Lighthouse
This cylindrical masonry tower, standing 18 meters tall, was built in 1868 and first lit in the same year. It features an octagonal design with a lantern and gallery, rising from a two-story keeper's house. The lighthouse is situated near the base of Manfredonia's east mole, which includes a street and a public beach. Damaged during World War II in 1943, it was subsequently rebuilt in 1947. The light emits a white flash every five seconds, visible for 13.2 nautical miles. The site is open to the public, though the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: The Manfredonia Lighthouse is essential for maritime traffic navigating the Adriatic Sea into the port of Manfredonia, ensuring safe passage for commercial and fishing vessels.
