About Maeshiba Lighthouse
Constructed in 1669, Maeshiba Lighthouse is a square tower built of wood, standing 9 meters tall. It is situated on the north side of the Toyogawa River entrance in what is now Toyohashi City. The lighthouse served actively until 1908. It sustained damage from Typhoon Vera in September 1959 but was restored in 1966. This traditional-style tower is recognized as one of Japan's well-preserved lighthouses.
