Loire Estuary North Side Lighthouse Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Loire Estuary North Side Lighthouse Lighthouse
Constructed in 1875, the Loire Estuary North Side Lighthouse stands on a rock near the river's north bank, approximately three kilometers upstream from Paimboeuf. Originally a ten-meter cylindrical stone tower, the surviving structure is now about five meters tall. For many years, its light served to guide vessels navigating the estuary, an important waterway for maritime traffic. The lighthouse was inactive for a considerable period. Although no longer operational, the site remains accessible, allowing visitors to view the reduced stone tower and the surrounding river landscape.
Why it matters: This lighthouse marks a historical point for navigation in the Loire Estuary, particularly for traffic above Paimboeuf, and its remaining structure connects to the region's maritime past.
