Location & Light Range
About Livorno Diga Curvilinea North End Lighthouse
Constructed in 1857, this octagonal cylindrical stone tower stands 20 meters high on a two-story stone base. It is located at the northern end of the Diga Curvilinea, where this curved breakwater connects with the straight Diga Meloria, offshore from Livorno, Italy. The tower remains unpainted, showcasing its stone construction. While originally a significant navigational aid, the lighthouse was eventually replaced by a smaller beacon at its base. The structure is now inactive and access is only possible by boat.
Why it matters: This lighthouse was important for marking the junction where the Diga Curvilinea met the Diga Meloria, guiding ships around this maritime structure.
