About Le Havre Nouvelle Digue Sud Lighthouse
This cylindrical lighthouse, standing 15 meters tall, is situated at the end of the south breakwater in Le Havre. Its structure features a lantern, gallery, and six buttresses, painted white with a green lantern. First lit in 1948, it replaced a structure destroyed during D-Day fighting in 1944. The lighthouse emits a single green flash every 2 seconds, visible for nearly 12 nautical miles. Recent restoration work has been completed on the tower.
Why it matters: The lighthouse marks the entrance to the port of Le Havre, guiding vessels safely past the south breakwater into one of France's major shipping lanes.
