About La Teignouse Lighthouse
Constructed in 1845, the La Teignouse lighthouse is situated on a small rocky islet approximately 6.5 kilometers east-southeast of Quiberon, France. This cylindrical masonry tower, standing 20 meters tall, rises from the center of a two-story keeper's house. It emits a white or red light with a flash characteristic of one white or red flash every 4 seconds. The lighthouse was automated in 1983, at which time its lantern was removed and replaced with an aerobeacon. Its geographic range extends to 13.2 nautical miles.
Why it matters: La Teignouse is indispensable for vessels navigating the Passage de la Teignouse, a strait between the Quiberon peninsula and the Île d'Houat, allowing safe entry into the Baie de Quiberon.
