La Parquette Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About La Parquette Lighthouse
La Parquette lighthouse, constructed of stone and first lit in 1880, stands as an octagonal tower 25 meters in height. Originally, its lantern was painted in a distinctive black and white spiral pattern, a unique feature for French lighthouses. The tower is now painted white. Its focal plane is 17 meters above the water, and it emits a green flash every 4 seconds, with a geographic range of 12.4 nautical miles. The lantern itself has been removed from the structure. This offshore light is situated about 7 kilometers south southeast of Pointe St.-Mathieu and west of Pointe du Toulinguet.
Why it matters: The former unique black and white spiral paint scheme distinguished La Parquette from other French lighthouses. It aids mariners navigating the coastal area between Pointe St.-Mathieu and Pointe du Toulinguet.
