About Kériolet Lighthouse
Also known as: Kériolet (Beuzec) (La Croix feu postérieur)
Built in 1848 on the grounds of the Château de Kériolet, this cylindrical masonry tower stands 9 meters tall. It originally functioned as the rear light for the La Croix range, situated 1875 meters northeast of the Feu de la Croix. The light was shown through a square window in the masonry lantern. Development in Concarneau, located 1 km away, eventually obscured its beam. This led to the lighthouse being deactivated in 1964, concluding its service. The tower remains visible from the Rue de Stang-ar-Lin, which connects Concarneau and Beuzec-Conq.
Why it matters: Its deactivation in 1964 illustrates how urban development can impact historical navigational aids, as land-based changes superseded maritime requirements.
