Kodomari Kō East Breakwater Lighthouse
Location & Light Range
About Kodomari Kō East Breakwater Lighthouse
Established in 1975, this structure marked the eastern inner breakwater of Kodomari harbor. It consisted of an 8.5-meter white concrete post situated atop a square, single-story concrete equipment shelter. For almost forty years, the light served local maritime traffic, guiding vessels into the port. The light's purpose became redundant following harbor expansion and reconfiguration. It was deactivated and removed in September 2014, making way for updated maritime infrastructure.
Why it matters: The deactivation and removal of this light in 2014 highlights how harbor expansions can render navigational aids obsolete, reflecting shifts in port infrastructure needs.
