Location & Light Range
About Kernével Feu Postérieur Lighthouse
The Kernével Feu Postérieur, a square concrete tower built in 1960, stands 16 meters tall. It serves as the rear light for a downstream range, guiding ships outbound from Lorient's Rade de Pen-Mané harbor. This light is attached to the front corner of a 1 1/2-story keeper's house. The tower is white with a red square daymark at the top and emits a quick-flashing red light. The original lighthouse on this site was destroyed in 1944, with a temporary light established in 1950 before the current structure was completed. Visitors can access the site, but the tower itself is closed.
Why it matters: As the rear range light, it provides critical alignment for vessels departing the Rade de Pen-Mané, Lorient's main harbor.
