About Kawasaki City Lighthouses Lighthouse
This cylindrical tower, completed in 1997, stands on a large round platform in Tōkyō Bay, approximately 4.5 kilometers southeast of Kawasaki. It features a distinctive sail-like structure, one of two such towers. The light emits three white flashes every 10 seconds and has a geographic range of 15.3 nautical miles. While it functions as a navigational aid, its primary purpose is to serve as a ventilation tower for the Tōkyō Bay Aqua-Line.
Why it matters: The tower is essential for the ventilation of the Tōkyō Bay Aqua-Line's underwater tunnel section, which connects Kawasaki with Kisarazu and is the world's longest for automobiles.
