About Kamiikada Lighthouse
Also known as: Kamiikada (Kami Ikada)
The Kamiikada Lighthouse, built in 1950, is an 8-meter cylindrical concrete tower painted green. It is situated on a large concrete pier on the seaward side of a reef located about 4 kilometers northeast of Ushimado. The lighthouse emits a green light that flashes once every 8 seconds. Access to the site is possible by boat, though the tower itself is not open to the public. Its construction material and design aim to withstand the marine environment.
Why it matters: This lighthouse warns vessels of the reef it marks northeast of Ushimado, an area with coastal traffic. The unique green flash characteristic helps mariners identify this specific hazard, preventing groundings.
